RESEARCH INTERESTS
I am an ecologist with experience, interest and working knowledge in wildlife ecology, forestry and conservation of vertebrates. I am currently working at The Copperbelt University where I am involved in teaching Principles of Ecology, Biometry, Wildlife Ecology and Wildlife Resources Assessment to undergraduate students. I also teach Ecological Sampling Techniques and Biodiversity and Poverty Alleviation Courses to postgraduate students. Since 2007 to date, I have been involved in many Environmental Consultancy Projects ranging from Agricultural, Forestry, Mining, Water and Sanitation and Dam Construction. As such, my understanding, working knowledge and ultimately the execution of projects that require Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs), Strategic and Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Environment Project Briefs (EPBs) has undoubtedly been enriched over the years. My main contribution to these projects has been the assessment of avifauna, other wildlife species and plants. Regarding bird species assessment, I am a qualified ringer with a ringing certificate offered by the Animal Demographics Unit of the University of Cape Town and I have ringed a total of 840 birds consisting of 175 species. Besides, I have been championing the sustainable use and protection of the environment by ensuring that developers adhere to and comply with good environmental practices as is prescribed in Zambia’s Environmental Management Act (2011) which is enforced by Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA). Being a member of Zambia Consumer Association (ZACA), I am an advocate and campaigner of fair trade (checking for product weights), promoting good health (tobacco control and chemical safety) and environmental protection. I am also a fully paid-up member of Birdlife South Africa and BirdWatch Zambia. I am competent with field techniques of surveying flora and fauna where the objectives are primarily to obtain information on rare, data deficiency and threatened species, and to provide accurate identification of these species. My research interests are include studies focusing on terrestrial ecology of birds and mammals, urban ecology and land use-change, wildlife management and conservation, human-wildlife conflicts, wildlife trade and plant-animal interaction.
