Consultancy

Under the auspices of our Extension Services Unit (now Practice Office), we are providing research and consultancy services to a myriad of clients. Among the many research studies undertaken, below are some:

  •  An investigation into the causes that lead to incomplete buildings in Zambia.
  • An appraisal of donor funded community based construction projects
  •  Application of quality management on Zambian construction sites.
  • Solid waste management in cities. A comparative study of developing and developed cities.
  •  Land use planning and the causes of land invasions
  •  Road Infrastructure planning and maintenance
  •  Challenges of municipal development and management and squatter settlements etc.
  •  Challenges of housing finance in Zambia
  •  Provision of housing to low income families in Zambia
  •  Housing provision in a liberalized economy
  •  Essentials of Valuation Theory and Practice in Zambia
  •  Land management practices- normative and positive
  •  Materials Design and construction of Centre for Life Long Education offices and classrooms at CBU. A project team was formed in the school to design and subsequently carry out the construction work. The work was completed on schedule to required specifications.
  •  Design and supervision of construction of student hostels to provide 96 student bed spaces.
  •  Design and supervision of construction of School of Business Complex, comprising 8 classrooms , 2 lecture theatres, and 2 office blocks.
  •  Design and supervision of construction of Civil Engineering Department classrooms and offices.
  •  Design and supervision of Oxfam community schools in Mufulira, Kitwe and Chingola. This work involved the consultant maintaining the client’s funds to disburse to the contractor in payments during interim and final valuations.
  •  Data Bank Development and Rehabilitation: Supervision of 24 World Bank funded rural health centers in Northern, Luapula, Copperbelt and North Western Provinces. Staff drawn from the departments of Architecture, Building and Civil engineering and Construction did the design and supervision of the projects. These projects were carried out under World Bank guidelines and specifications.
  •  Testing for Kitwe Roads and Water Mains Rehabilitation Projects for various clients (China Hinan, China Roads and Bridges, Joe Motors, Spencon, Zulu Burrow).
  •  Preparation of Kitwe’s Mulenga Compound overspill layout plan. The area was planned and the plots surveyed by the School’s Surveyors before handover to the local authority for allocation to prospective residents.
  •  Preparation of Regional Plans for all the eight provinces of Zambia for academic purposes
  •  Preparation of Structure and Neighbourhood Plans for Copperbelt Districts for academic purposes
  •  Research into housing policy and implementation mechanisms
  •  Currently the School is preparing two integrated development plans for two districts in Zambia contracted by the Zambian Government- Chavuma and Chongwe
  •  Preparation of a Development brief for Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre Expansion of Infrastructure
  •  Preparation of a Highest and Best Use Study for Zambia Railways Pension Scheme Trust Ltd
