PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE OF PARLIAMENT FOR CZECH REPUBLIC VISISTS THE COPPERBELT UNIVERSITY


A delegation of senators from the Czech Republic led by H.E. Mr Milos Vystrcil, President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, accompanied by H.E. Mr Pavel Prochazka, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Zambia, visited the Copperbelt University on a mission to enhance existing collaborations between the Copperbelt University (CBU) and Mendel University in Brno (MENDELU). The collaborations are aimed at improving forestry education and environmental sciences at the two Universities.

During the meeting, the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Mr Vystrcil expressed his gratitude for the existing partnership stating that the future collaboration will bring even more benefits to both institutions. He stated that the existing partnership was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic under the program “Strengthening the capacities of public universities in developing countries”.

Meanwhile Acting CBU Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Chisale thanked the delegation for the investment made in providing the University with cutting-edge scientific equipment such as microscopes, drones, GPS devices, and cameras among others, stating that the equipment has boosted the institution’s research capabilities and changed the way students carry out research.

” Allow me to express my appreciation for the scale of investment that has gone through this project boosting our capacities. This enhancement will not only enrich students’ learning experiences but also equip them with tools that will help them tackle real-world challenges in forestry and environmental sciences” he added.

Another part of the mission of the Czech delegation was to establish a collaboration of the Copperbelt University with VSB – Technical University of Ostrava in the field of mining and mineral sciences.

The meeting culminated in a tour of the University facilities provided to representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Czech Academy of Sciences, MENDELU, and VSB – Technical University of Ostrava.
