The Library Technical Services department is charged with the responsibility to identify, select, acquire, and process appropriate reading materials and develop collections that support approved academic programmes for the Copperbelt University. In addition, the department provides professional guidance on the management of various collections housed by the Library Catalogue. In order to perform these functions, the department consists of the following sections: the Collection Development (Acquisitions), Cataloguing & Classification, and Serials Control Unit.

Cataloguing and Classification/ Collection Development Section
The main function of the unit is to acquire and create bibliographic records for information resources, and essentially provides link and user access to the Library online public access catalogue (OPAC). The online public access catalogue can be searched on campus and beyond through the link provided on the Library page of the Copperbelt University website.
