The Department of Economics of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences was established as a response to the stakeholders’ needs of having economics programmes that can produce graduates who are entrenched in economic theory, statistics, and mathematical and econometric modelling. It also strives to develop a cadre of intellectuals that can conduct applied economic research that responds cross-cutting socio-economic problems at national and global levels. To achieve these goals, the Department derives its reputation from the outstanding and highly trained academic staff with diverse specialties in fields such as health economics, econometrics, development economics, international economics, corporate finance and investments, environmental and agricultural economics. The Department of Economics currently offers a Bachelor of Science in economics under the regular and evening modes of learning to carter for the different needs of its clients.
