Sports and Recreation Department
This Section is responsible for planning, development, management, governance and co-ordination of the Sports and Recreation and the generality of the socio-cultural activities.
Copperbelt University offers various facilities for sport and recreation and social cultural activities. There are various sporting clubs registered by the Dean of Students office. There are; Athletics, Chess, Basketball, Badminton, Darts, Football, Netball, Karate, Judo, Tennis, Volleyball, Baseball and Rugby among others. The university constantly seeks to promote social-cultural and recreation activities through wide array of activities as well.
Students participate in Sports and Recreation have been known to benefit in several ways such as;
- Improve emotional well being (helps students feel more confident, happy and relaxed with improved self esteem and self concept)
- Improved health
- Improved mental health (concentration skills and the ability to manage anxiety and stress)
- Enhanced social skills (co-operation and teamwork, and a great way to have fun and meet new people and develop friendships)
- Increased capacity for learning and development
- A more positive university environment with less conflicts and discipline problems.
- Reduction in anti-social behaviour like smoking, use of illicit drugs or involvement in criminal activities
The Sports and Recreation Section impacts students’ lives by teaching them responsibility, leadership, conflict resolution, teamwork, fairness, tolerance, communication, respect and other social skills and values which promote good citizenship.
The University is affiliated to the National Sports Council, the Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports Association, the International University Sports Federation and the Zambia Federation of University and College Sports. The University is also an affiliate to all National Sports Federations and Associations such as Zambia Basketball Association, Zambia Volleyball Association among others.
