Student Bursary Information

Overview

The University does not award bursaries. It only admits students who have already secured sponsorship from the Government or Non-Government Organisations (NGOs).

All bursary applications must be submitted to the Ministry of Education’s Bursaries Committee.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit the following:

  1. Handwritten application letter stating the preferred loan category

  2. Completed Bursaries Committee Application Form

  3. Certified copy of the University admission letter

  4. Certified copies of:

    • Applicant’s National Registration Card (NRC)

    • Parent/Guardian’s NRC

  5. Grade 12 Statement of Results

  6. Two recent passport-size photographs

  7. Any additional supporting documents (e.g., proof of vulnerability)

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for a student loan, an applicant must:

  • Be a Zambian citizen

  • Be a school leaver within three years prior to the start of the programme

  • Be admitted into a degree programme at a local public university

Student Loan Package

The loan may cover:

  • Tuition fees

  • Accommodation fees

  • Book allowance

  • Project and equipment costs

  • Student upkeep

Funding levels are determined by the Government through the Bursaries Committee in consultation with universities and relevant stakeholders.

Loan Categories

The available funding levels are:

  • 100% funding

  • 75% funding

  • 50% funding

  • 25% funding

Only vulnerable applicants should apply for 100% funding and must provide supporting documentation.

Loan Conditions

  1. Loan decisions are made by the Bursaries Committee and are not negotiable

  2. The loan is valid for one academic year or semester

  3. Renewal is possible upon application and satisfactory academic performance

  4. Part of the loan is paid directly to the student through a commercial bank

  5. Students are responsible for covering any shortfall

  6. Repayment begins after a one-year grace period following completion of studies

  7. Early repayment is permitted
