Concilia Monde

Biography

Concillia Monde is a natural resources manager with expertise in Freshwater ecosystems, Fisheries Management and Forestry. She has over 20 years’ experience in her field of expertise. Concillia is the Deputy Chair for the Copperbelt University Oliver Reginald Tambo Africa Research Chair Initiative (CBU-ORTARChI) of Environment and Development. She holds a PhD in Aquatic Ecology from the Wageningen University, The Netherlands. She is also a lecturer in aquatic sciences at Copperbelt University.

Under this chair Concilia is the Ecotoxicology Leader and is involved in assessing the impact of heavy metal pollution on freshwater ecosystems. Concillia mainly specializes in aquatic and terrestrial assessments relating to several projects. She has participated in consulting projects for international and local companies where she evaluated the status of the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems and offered expert advice on the effect of proposed developments on these natural resources (e.g. UNDP, UNOPS, UNEP, PUMA Zambia, Mopani Copper Mines, Lumwana Copper mines etc.). Among the projects she has participated include Environmental and Social Impact Assessment and Management Plan for Small-Scale Irrigation Schemes for over 12 districts across Zambia in the “Strengthening climate resilience of agricultural livelihoods in Agro-Ecological Regions” (SCRALA) project areas namely Mafinga, Chama, Petauke, Gwembe, Siavonga, Mambwe, etc., Climate Change Risk Assessment of the Lukanga and Bangweulu wetlands, Biodiversity Assessment and formulation of the Biodiversity Management Plan for the Water Resources Development Project.
