1.   REGISTRAR’S

JOB TITLE: CHIEF RECORDS MANAGEMENT OFFICER (Re-advertised)        (X1)

Job Purpose 

To provide vision and strategy in the management of all registries and records in the University and its satellite campuses.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organises and manages the University registry in accordance with the record management procedures;

  • Establishes records management systems for the university;

  • Supervises the Registry Supervisors in the Academic and Central Registries;

  • Ensures that registry staff are knowledgeable and kept current about records management principles and requirements;

  • Serves as the section technical expert on University records management issues;

  • Guides the formulation and implementation of records management policies to keep abreast with appropriate national and international professional records and information management standards;

  • Provides guidance to University staff on emerging issues on proper records management;

  • Develops, maintains, verifies and evaluates existing record systems and ensures that financial, legal or administrative requirements and regulations are complied with;

  • Supports compliance with the National Archives Act of Zambia Cap 175 and the Public Service Records Management Policy of 2012;

  • Ensures data protection;

  • Manages all registries and registry staff within the institution and satellite Campuses;

  • Manages the Human Resource Management Information System;

  • Produces management reports for internal and external use;

  • Provides training to staff who require access or have responsibility for maintaining records;

  • Destroys or archiving finished data records;

  • Ensures that records are easily accessible when needed;

  • Leads the transformation of University records management processes to address the challenges posed by the management of records; and

  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Full Grade 12 or Form V Certificate with Five (5) ‘O’ level Credits or better including English and Mathematics;

  • Bachelor's Degree in Records Management/ Archives, Information Management Systems, and Library and Information Science;

  • Master's Degree in Records Management/ Archives, Information Management Systems, and Library and Information Science will be an added advantage;

  • Professional certification or training in Records and Information Management, Archives Administration, or Electronic Records Management will be an added advantage;

  • A minimum of four (4) years' related work experience in records management, archives management, registry administration or information management of which at least Two (2) years should have been served at a supervisory level in a reputable institution; and

  • Must be a registered member of a relevant professional body.

Required Competencies and Behavioral Attributes:

  • Strong organisational, records management, and ICT skills with high attention to detail and accuracy;

  • Excellent leadership, supervisory and team coordination abilities;

  • High level of integrity, confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive records and information;

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide guidance and training to stakeholders; and

  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities with capacity to improve records systems, ensure compliance and support digital transformation initiatives.

  • Immediate Supervisor:   Deputy Registrar- Human Resource and Administration.

  • Salary Scale: PSS03.

2.   SCHOOL OF THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT

JOB TITLE: SENIOR STUDIO LABORATORY INSTRUCTOR                                             (X4)

Job Purpose

To provide practical technical support, foundational instruction and operational assistance in studio laboratories.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides hands on technical support and instruction in foundational tools such as CAD, basic modelling and surveying equipment;

  • Assists in delivery of studio based teaching and demonstrations;

  • Operates, maintains and troubleshoots standard laboratory equipment (such as Plotters, 3D Printers, surveying instruments);

  • Prepares laboratory materials, models and student practical setups;

  • Supervises day to day Laboratory activities and student usage;

  • Enforces health and safety procedures and guidelines;

  • Maintains inventory and ensures laboratories are well resourced and functional;

  • Records and reports technical issues and laboratory usage data;

  • Support Scientific Officers and academic staff in teaching and research activities; and

  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Full Grade 12 or Form V Certificate with Five (5) ‘O’ level Credits or better including English and Mathematics;

  • A Bachelors Degree in Architecture/ Planning/ Construction Management/ Quantity or Surveying;

  • A minimum of three (3) years of practical experience in studio/ laboratory operations or technical support; and

  • The candidate must be willing to develop skills toward advanced technical competence and postgraduate qualifications where required or necessary

Required Competencies and Behavioral Attributes:

  • Technical proficiency in laboratory/studio equipment, CAD applications and surveying tools;

  • Knowledge of laboratory operations, inventory management and health and safety standards;

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills;

  • Good organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively; and

  • High level of integrity, professionalism and customer service orientation.

3.   DIRECTORATE OF PROJECTS, PROPERTY AND SERVICES

JOB TITLE:  ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICER                                         (X1)

 

Job Purpose

Prevent diseases and promote good health in the university.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts disease surveillance, investigates outbreaks and implements prevention and control measures.;

  • Promotes environmental cleanliness, inspects premises and enforces sanitation standards;

  • Monitors drinking water quality, conducts sanitary surveys and promotes safe water practices;

  • Inspects food premises, enforces food safety regulations and investigates food-borne disease outbreaks;

  • Oversees the safe management and disposal of solid, healthcare, hazardous and chemical waste;

  • Prevents and controls disease vectors and pests through surveillance and environmental management;

  • Inspects students’ halls residential, trading premises, healthcare facilities, and public facilities to ensure compliance with environmental health standards;

  • Conducts health promotion activities, provides public health education and mobilizes communities to adopt healthy practices;

  • Monitors environmental pollution, assesses environmental risks and supports climate change adaptation and mitigation initiatives;

  • Participates in emergency preparedness, disaster response and public health emergency management;

  • Enforces public health laws, conducts inspections, issues statutory notices and ensures compliance with relevant legislation;

  • Prepares reports and budgets, mentors interns and provides technical advice to the community; and

  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Full Grade 12 or Form V Certificate with Five (5) ‘O’ level Credits or better including English and Mathematics;

  • A Diploma in Environmental Health from a recognized institution;

  • A Bachelors Degree in Environmental Health will be an added advantage;

  • A minimum of two (2) years of related work experience; and

  • MUST be registered with Health Professional Council of Zambia and possess a valid practicing license.

Required Competencies and Behavioral Attributes:

·     Ability to priorities and manage own workload;

·     Ability to work on own initiative with minimum supervision;

·     Ability to work independently and as part of a team;

·     Knowledgeable with the laws that relate to Public Health;

·     Must be computer literate;

4.   SCHOOL OF NATURAL RESOURCES

 

JOB TITLE: LABORATORY TECHNICIAN- PLANT TISSUE CULTURE             (X1)

(Re-advertised)

 

Job Purpose

To oversee daily laboratory activities to ensure the efficient propagation and maintenance of plant cultures.

Main Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Oversees the daily workflow of the tissue culture room, including the scheduling of sub-culturing, indexing and rooting procedures;

  • Monitors and maintains the cleanliness and sterility of the laboratory environment, including laminar flow hoods, growth rooms and autoclave equipment;

  • Prepares and sterilizes culture media, ensuring the correct balance of nutrients, hormones and gelling agents for various plant species;

  • Maintains inventory of stock cultures, chemicals, consumables (petri dishes, vessels), and personal protective equipment (PPE);

  • Assists Lecturers in carrying out experiments and laboratory practicals;

  • Prepares budget estimates and reports for the tissue culture laboratory;

  • Maintains detailed records of all experiments, protocols and observations in laboratory notebooks or digital databases; and

  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Full Grade 12 certificate or Form V with 5 ‘O’ levels with Credit or better including English and Mathematics;

  • Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology;

  • Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology will be an added advantage; and

  • A minimum of two (2) years’ relevant work experience in a Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory.

Required Competencies and Behavioral Attributes:

·     Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail;

·     Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team;

·     Strong communication skills;

·     Good interpersonal skills; and

·     Must be computer literate.

5.   DEAN OF STUDENTS

 

JOB TITLE: HALL WARDEN                                                                            (X1)

 

Job Purpose

To effectively manage the University Halls of residences in order to provide a high-quality support service to students.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Helps with the clearance of students at the end of the term and Issues and collects keys to and from students at the begging and closing respectively;

  • Guides visitors to student rooms and assist new students to locate rooms and monitors visitors to ensure that no property is taken at the end of the visitation;

  • Calls for ambulances and takes sick students to the clinic for treatment.

  • Issues residential requisites to students;

  • Creates an inclusive and supportive hall environment, welcoming to students from a diverse range of backgrounds;

  • Ensures the health and safety of students in the halls and fosters community spirit;

  • Supervises cleaners in their respective hostels and ensures that the Hostels are kept tidy and clean;

  • Keeps inventory of beddings, reading room chairs, reading lamps and faults on the same for purposes of maintenance and ensures that they are not removed without authorization;

  • Keeps records of students in the residence, sorts mail and ensures prompt delivery to the right addressee;

  • Disseminates information relating to the availability of accommodation.

  • Maintains order within the Hall and where necessary, exercises disciplinary powers in accordance with delegated authority; and

  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Full Grade 12 or Form V Certificate (or its equivalent) with 5 ‘O’ levels including English and Mathematics. Full Grade 12 or Form V Certificate (or its equivalent) with five (5) ‘O’ Levels, including Mathematics, with a Credit in English;

  • Certificate in Business Studies related courses, Education, Human Resources, Public Administration, Psychosocial Counselling or any related Hostel Management course;

  • A Diploma in any of the above fields will be an added advantage; and

  • A minimum of one (1) year of relevant work experience, with experience working with students at a higher learning institution being an added advantage.

Required Competencies and Behavioral Attributes:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

  • Strong organisational and record management skills;

  • Ability to supervise and coordinate hostel operations effectively;

  • Good problem-solving and conflict resolution skills;

  • High level of integrity, responsibility and attention to detail; and

  • Strong customer service orientation with a commitment to student welfare.

·     Salary Scale: PSS 09
