Historic Installation and Robing Ceremony of the 6th Vice Chancellor at Copperbelt University


The Copperbelt University has marked a significant milestone in the history of the University with the grand installation and robing ceremony of its 6th Vice Chancellor, Professor Imasiku Anayawa Nyambe.

The event, held at the University’s main campus in Kitwe, was attended by a diverse community of dignitaries, faculty members and students, all eager to witness this momentous occasion.

In her opening remarks, Chairperson of the University Council Ms Felicity Chisanga, emphasized the importance of leadership in shaping the future of the institution.

Ms Chisanga commended Professor Nyambe for his exceptional academic and administrative track record, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the university to new heights.

The Permanent Secretary – Education Services Mr Joel Kamoko who was represented by the Director Higher Education from the Ministry of Education Mr Amos Mumba congratulated Professor Nyambe on his appointment and reiterated governments support for the University’s initiatives.

He further called on Professor Nyambe to implement the revised government education curriculum framework that emphasise the need to provide competences that responds to developmental aspiration and goals of the country.

‘The education System has been realigned to ensure that it contributes to job creation and economic development. The Universities must therefore be ready to implement the reforms Government has made to the education sector’ He said.

The highlight of the event was the formal installation and robing of the new Vice Chancellor. As the audience watched in reverent silence, Professor Nyambe was dressed in a ceremonial robe, a symbol of academic authority and tradition, signifying the commencement of his tenure. He was then presented with the Mase and the University statutes symbolising instruments of power for his office.

In his inaugural address, Professor Nyambe highlighted his vision for Copperbelt University and articulated his commitment to enhancing the university’s research capabilities, fostering innovation, and creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for both students and staff.

The event concluded with congratulatory messages from distinguished guests including civic leaders, representatives from public and private sectors, Staff and students. The atmosphere was one of celebration and optimism, as the university community looked forward to a promising new chapter under Professor Nyambe’s leadership, which is  expected to guide the institution towards greater achievements and continued success in the years to come.

The Copperbelt University, established by an act of Parliament number 19 of 1987 , is one of Zambia’s premier higher education institutions, renowned for its commitment to academic excellence, research, and community service. The university offers a diverse range of programs and is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of leaders and innovators.
