The Centre for Academic Development (CAD) was established in 2011 as the Academic Development Centre (ADC). It was one of the key results of the HEART Project (strengthening Higher Education and Research Training) supported with NUFFIC funds. This was a capacity building project for academic and research staff. The Centre has grown into a Directorate coordinating academic development and quality assurance in the University. It continuously assesses existing and emerging professional needs provide necessary training and interventions. CAD pursues a diverse range of the Terms of Reference:

  • Assist teaching staff in the area of pedagogy
  • Conducting seminars and workshops on new research and teaching methods
  • Training people who get into leadership positions such as Deanship, Headship etc.
  • Conducting orientation programmes for new staff
  • Provision of Information Literacy Services to teaching staff
  • Designing and advocating for new teaching and research methodologies and equipment
  • Provision of facilities for preparing and practicing presentation methods (e.g. Power Point etc.)
  • Provision of facilities and resources for group discussions
  • Administration of research and publication funds
  • Coordination of external invitations to relevant conferences, seminars and workshops
  • Coordinating Institutional membership to related professional bodies
  • Coordinating the sourcing for donations of equipment in the university
  • Development of quality assurance benchmarks for teaching and research
  • Maintain research and publishing records for the university
  • Administration of activities of the Centre for Academic Development
