Copperbelt University management has received the 76 seater Higer luxury bus donated by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zambia, Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu in response to a request made by the Copperbelt University Student Union (COBUSU) leadership early this year.
Speaking during the official handover ceremony of the bus to management at the main campus in Riverside Kitwe, the Vice Chancellor of the Copperbelt University, Professor Naison Ngoma, thanked His Excellency Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu for the good gesture and indicated that the bus will help in alleviating transport challenges faced by the institution.
Professor Ngoma further urged the student population to remain disciplined and not vandalize the bus and other university property.
And COBUSU president Lawrence Kasonde said the bus will help lessen transport challenges that have in the past hindered students from carrying out industrial tours, sports and other recreational activities.
He added that the bus is the first response to various student union leadership requests from Government among many other issues to be addressed which included the re-introduction of the meal allowances, increase of book allowances and completion of the stalled hostels.
After the handover of the bus, both management and students took a tour of the University on the bus.
