CBU MANAGEMENT EXTENDS THE PRESIDENTS GESTURE TO ITS MPIKA CAMPUS
Following the good gesture by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zambia, Dr. Edger Chagwa Lungu to donate a 76-seater Higer luxury Bus to the Copperbelt University in response to a request by the Student Union’s leadership, the Copperbelt University has extended this gesture by transferring two buses – an 80 seater bus and a 29-seater mini-bus to the CBU Mpika campus in Muchinga province.
Speaking during the official handover ceremony of the buses on 20th March 2021, at the TAZARA Training Centre in Mpika, the Minister for Muchinga Province, Honourable Malozo Sichone thanked His Excellency the President for the donation which has triggered benefits to the students at Mpika campus. He further noted that the bus will help ease the transport challenges at the Mpika campus and urged students to remain disciplined and not vandalize the buses.
Speaking at the same event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Naison Ngoma, said the transfer of such assets to the Mpika Campus is a clear indication that the Copperbelt University is not in Mpika for a short term but that its intentions are to grow the campus into a fully-fledged university.
The Professor also said that the Copperbelt University will soon be introducing new programmes at the Mpika campus as a way to grow the campus and that he is already talking to chiefs in the area for possible land to build the new university. He further called upon the leadership for TAZARA and Zambia Railways to consider employing the soon to graduate first cohort of railway engineers who shall be graduating in October 2021.
And COBUSU president Lawrence Kasonde said the bus will help lessen transport challenges that have in the past hindered students from carrying out industrial tours, sports and other recreational activities.
After the handover of the bus, Mpika campus students took a tour on the bus to Mpika Town.
