The curriculum model is innovative. It is a modern approach to curriculum design which is open and integrative. It provides for vertical integration between the basic sciences and clinical sciences, as well as horizontal integration of the basic sciences to each other. The curriculum allows for early exposure to clinical sciences and continuous teaching in basic sciences throughout the program. In using all combinations of delivery of curriculum, such as problem based, student centered and systems based learning to achieve a learning mix that produces the best in the student. Community based training is an integral part of the curriculum that runs throughout the program and anchors the training within the context of the community. The model is open by breaking the subject specific system of training in favor of a learning by concept system. This is a 3 year program to train health professionals to middle level health providers within the health care system of Zambia.
