The Copperbelt University participated in the first ever Built Environment professionals Indaba which took place on 1st<\/sup> and 2nd<\/sup> September 2022, dedicated to discussing the construction sector of Zambia\u2019s economy in all its facets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CBU being the only higher learning institution in Zambia providing training at degree level for Construction Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Urban and Regional Planners and Real Estate Surveyors, participated as one of the major players that has made notable contributions to Zambia\u2019s construction industry and urban development, in the region and far-flung places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the indaba, Minister of Local Government and Rural development Gary Nkombo called on institutions of higher learning to take a leading role in the provision of professional urban planning services that are forward thinking while offering spaces for the growth and dynamics that cities are experiencing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Nkombo said academic institutions play a central role in discovering new knowledge which translates into innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Minister of Green Economy and Environment Collins Nzovu placed great emphasis on the need for excellence from Zambian professionals in order for government to entrust them with more projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Copperbelt University Dean for the school of Built Environment Professor Ephraim Munshifwa, reiterated the university\u2019s commitment in the provision of programmes tailored to meet the needs of the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Munshifwa said that CBU provides education that is responsive to the rapidly changing technological world which is also tailored at improving the current state of the built environment<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the indaba, the University showcased the Waterfront Spatial Development plan that the Urban and Regional Planning department proposed for the land across the Kafue River in Kitwe, and An architecture 3D model of a proposed building of ZNBC Kitwe studios developed by a student.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The University further highlighted the postgraduate programs offered within the School of Built Environment, that provide an opportunity for qualified applicants to gain knowledge in important aspects of the industry as well as opportunities to build the capacities of professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
