Our degree programmes emphasises the importance of Zambian wildlife and the challenges involved in conserving it. The Department is known nationally and internationally for its focus on animal biology and ecology for both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vision<br>The vision of the department is to be among the leading departments in the university in research, teaching and community service and fostering a good reputation for friendliness by being responsive to societal needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Degree Programmes<br>The Department is currently running three undergraduate programmes:<br>\u2022 BSc Wildlife Management<br>\u2022 BSc Fisheries and Aquaculture and<br>\u2022 BSc Aquatic Resource Science and Management<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, the department is offering one postgraduate programme at three stages:<br>\u2022 MSc\/MPhil\/PhD Tropical Ecology and Biodiversity Management<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All undergraduate degree programmes are only offered on full-time basis at the moment. Postgraduate degree programme is being offered on full-time, part-time and distance learning modes. For admission to a postgraduate programme, a candidate must possess a first degree in related field from a reputable and recognised institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Research and Teaching Interests<br>The department is engaged in teaching and researching in several interrelated areas:<br>\u2022 Animal biology and evolution<br>\u2022 Wildlife Systematics<br>\u2022 Aquatic and Terrestrial ecology<br>\u2022 Conservation Biology<br>\u2022 Population ecology and Population Genetics<br>\u2022 Conservation Biology<br>\u2022 Wildlife Management<br>\u2022 Ethology<br>\u2022 Avian biology and ecology<br>\u2022 Climate Change and Sustainable Development<br>\u2022 Biodiversity Resource Assessment<br>\u2022 Environmental Management<br>\u2022 Socio-ecological Systems and Human Dimension<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Zoology and Aquatic Sciences (ZAS) was established in 2009 in the School of Natural Resources.
