Tambo African Chair Initiative (ORTARChI) Professorial Chair of Environmental and Development in 2020. Stephen has been working on the remediation of contaminated mining generated wasteland on the Copperbelt, and is currently working on developing a model for phytoremediation of these wastelands arising from copper mining and processing in the Copperbelt Province. He also deals with contaminant management and has carried out research on<br> <strong>i)<\/strong> Mechanisms underlying chemical fate and transport <br><strong>ii)<\/strong> Contaminant analysis, environmental fate and associated effects on populations, communities and ecosystems. <br>Currently, Stephen is an Extra Ordinary Professor under the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences, University of Pretoria for the Period of 2021-2024. Stephen is a member of a number of professional bodies such as Engineering Institution of Zambia, Southern African Institute for Forestry, Association of Ecology and African Forest Forum. He has extensive working knowledge of Central and Southern African ecosystems (Chirwa et al. 2009; Monde et al., 2016) &amp; his current research links rural livelihoods to sustainable Zambezian ecosystem management (Syampungani et al. 2009) and utilization (Syampungani et al. 2011; Syampungani et al 2016).<br><br>Stephen is an internationally renowned environmental expert with affiliation to some universities in both Africa (University of Pretoria, University of Cape Town and University of Free State) and Europe (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Wageningen University &amp; Technical University of Munich, Germany) where he has either been involved as a supervisor at graduate level (i.e. Msc and PhD levels). Stephen has won a number of awards at both national and institutional levels namely; <br><strong>i<\/strong>)<strong> 2015: <\/strong>Science and Technology Merit National award Winner<strong> <\/strong><br><strong>ii) 2014: <\/strong>Labor Day Award: Most improved Academic of the Copperbelt University, School of Natural Resources, Kitwe <br><strong>iii)<\/strong> <strong>2012: <\/strong>Vice Chancellor Award for Excellence in Research in the area of Environmental &amp; Natural Resources Management <br><strong>iv)<\/strong> <strong>2012:<\/strong> Third World Academy of Sciences-United Nations Educational, Scientific &amp; Cultural Organization <strong>(TWAS-UNESCO)<\/strong> award.
