The Alumni Association Endowment Fund has been established to provide financial support to vulnerable students at Copperbelt University (CBU), ensuring they have access to education despite economic hardships. This fund is a collaborative effort between the Alumni Association, university administration, and external partners, aimed at fostering a culture of giving back while addressing critical student needs.
Key objectives of the fund include supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds, maintaining fairness and transparency in the selection process, and ensuring the long-termsustainability of the fund through strategic investments.
- To support students facing financial difficulties in accessing higher education.
- To foster a culture of giving among alumni for the betterment of future students.
- To ensure transparency, fairness, and accountability in the selection and disbursement of funds.
The Endowment Fund Committee (EFC) shall be established to manage and oversee the fund. This committee will comprise:
- Two representatives from the CBU Alumni Association.
- A representative from the University administration.
- A faculty member.
- A student representative
- An external financial expert
The committee will be responsible for fundraising, investment decisions, and selection of beneficiaries and prepare monthly reports to the Executive Committee of the CBU Alumin Association.
- Donations to the fund may be solicited from alumni, corporate sponsors,
philanthropists, and other stakeholders. - Funds shall be invested in low-risk financial products to ensure sustainability.
- Regular reports on the financial status of the fund will be provided to the alumni
association.
To qualify for assistance from the Alumni Association Endowment Fund, students must meet the following criteria:
Enrollment Status – The student must have enrolled as a full-time student at Copperbelt University.
Financial Need – The student must demonstrate significant financial need, supported

Academic Standing – The student must;
- Studying for undergraduate degree programme at CBU
- In year 2 and above
- Vulnerable
- Of good character
- High performers (High performer with good grades in their previous academic year all round to demonstrate satisfactory academic progress).
- Vulnerable Categories – Priority shall be given to:
Orphans and vulnerable children - Students from rural or marginalized communities.
- Students with disabilities.
- Students who are primary caregivers to ill or elderly family members.
Behaviour and Character – The student must demonstrate good moral standing,
evidenced through a recommendation letter from a faculty member or community
leader.
Call for Applications – The EFC will announce application windows at the beginning
of each academic year.
Submission – Students must submit:
- A completed application form.
- A personal statement describing their financial situation and how the assistance will impact their education.
- Supporting documents for financial need
- Two recommendation letters (academic and community-based).
- Official Results Slip
Screening and Review – Applications will be reviewed by the EFC based on eligibility,
need, and available funds.
Interview – Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview to further assess
their financial situation.
Decision and Disbursement – Successful applicants will be notified in writing, and the
funds will be disbursed directly to the university’s finance department to cover tuition,
accommodation, and other educational expenses.
- Beneficiaries will be required to submit a progress report at the end of each academic year, detailing how the funds have impacted their education and any updates to their financial situation.
- The EFC will conduct annual audits of the fund to ensure transparency and effective use of resources.
- Students receiving support may apply for renewal each academic year, provided they continue to meet the eligibility criteria and demonstrate ongoing financial need.
The EFC reserves the right to terminate assistance if:
- The student fails to maintain the required academic performance.
- There is evidence of falsified information in the application process.
- The student engages in any form of misconduct that violates university policies.
- Regular reports on the Endowment Fund’sperformance, impact, and financial status shall be presented to the Alumni Association and made available to the university community.
- Donors will receive an annual impact report, including stories from supported students.
