  1. DEPARTMENT OF GEOLOGY

JOB TITLE: Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in the following specializations:

  • Geostatistics/Mineral Resource Geology                       (01 Position)
  • Engineering Geology                                                           (01 Position)
  • Exploration Geophysics                                                     (01 Position)
  • Mineralogy                                                                             (01 Position)

Job Purpose

To perform teaching duties, supervise student projects and assess dissertations, undertake original individual and collaborative research, and perform other related administrative duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performing teaching duties at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Undertaking original individual and collaborative research leading to significant advances in their field and its publication in national or international refereed journals and collaboration with peers in other universities and academic institutions and keeping abreast of recent advances in the field.
  • Supervise students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels including coaching students by taking them outdoor for geological field mapping/project classes.
  • Involvement in curriculum development.
  • Involvement in community service in the area of specialization.
  • Setting and assessment of examination papers and assessing a portfolio of evidence.
  • Assist with administrative duties in the department and/or school.
  • Attendance of developmental workshops for teaching and learning, and participation in tutoring and mentoring activities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Position for Geostatistics/Resource Geology
  2. Grade 12 or Form V Certificate with a minimum of 5 “O” Level Credits or better in English and Mathematics
  3. Bachelor of Science in Geology or its equivalent from a recognized university.
  4. A Master’s degree in the same area as the Bachelor’s Degree is a must. The Master’s degree must command respect in Mineral Resource Geology, Mine Geostatistics or its equivalent.
  5. An earned PhD in Geostatistics or Resource Geology.
  6. Demonstrated experience in either academia or industry.
  7. Membership to the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) is a must.

  2. Grade 12 or Form V Certificate with a minimum of 5 “O” Level Credits or better in English and Mathematics
  3. Bachelor of Science in Geology or its equivalent from a recognized university.

  • Demonstrate experience in teaching, proven research and publication background.
  • Knowledge about computer software/applications in the relevant disciplines.
  • Strong commitment to teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • DEPARTMENT OF METALLURGY

JOB TITLE: Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in the following specializations:

  • Physical Metallurgy/Material Science                                          (01 Position)

Job Purpose

  • A minimum of four (4) years of relevant tutoring and lecturing experience at any institution of higher learning.
  • The applicant must be registered with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) and Engineers’ Registration Board or any other reputable institution.
  • Position for Physical Metallurgy/Material Science
  • Grade 12 or Form V Certificate minimum of 5 “O” Levels with credit or better in English and Mathematics.
  • Bachelor of Engineering in Metallurgical Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized university.
  • A Master’s degree in the same area as the Bachelor’s degree is a must. The Master’s degree must command respect in Physical Metallurgy/Material Science or its equivalent.
  • An earned PhD in Physical Metallurgy/Material Science or equivalent from an accredited university.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of relevant tutoring and lecturing experience at any institution of higher learning.

  • JOB TITLE: Certified Assayer                                                                   (01 Position)

Job Purpose

To provide technical support to the department in carrying out academic activities relating to metallurgical process laboratories and field activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Planning and demonstrating laboratory practicals to undergraduate students.
  • Serving as custodian of laboratory property.
  • Analysis of experiment samples and specimens.
  • Preparing and ensuring timely production of laboratory manuals and report books.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Grade 12 or Form V Certificate minimum of 5 “O” Levels with credit or better in English and Mathematics.
  • Minimum of a Diploma in Industrial Science or laboratory Science or Certified Assayer mode III.
  • Minimum of five (05) years relevant practical experience in the Metallurgy or Mineral related laboratory environment.
  • Must be computer literate.

  • DEPARTMENT OF GEOMATICS
  • JOB TITLE: Associate Professors/Senior Lecturer – Geomatics            (02 Positions)

Job Purpose

To teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels, conduct research in the field, offer consultancy services, and participate in academic activities in the University.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Developing curricula and delivering course material.
  • Conducting research, fieldwork, investigations, and writing reports.
  • Publishing research, attending conferences, delivering presentations, and networking with others in the field.
  • Traveling to other universities or academic settings to participate in learning opportunities and thus gain experience.
  • Participating in committee, departmental, and faculty meetings.
  • Providing training and mentoring to teaching assistants and junior lecturers.
  • Reviewing methods and teaching materials, and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Assisting with student recruitment, interviews, and academic counseling sessions.
  • Contributing to the creation of an environment that promotes growth, equality, and freedom of speech.

Qualifications and Experience required

  • Grade 12 or Form V Certificate minimum of 5 “O” Levels with credit or better in English and Mathematics.
  • An earned PhD in Geomatics Engineeringor equivalent from an accredited university.

  • JOB TITLE: Geomatics Technician                                                           (01 Position)

Job Purpose

To provide technical support to the department in carrying out technical and academic activities relating to remote sensing, geographical information systems (GIS) and field survey activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Planning, supervising and coordinating work activities of all technical staff in the department.
  • Planning and demonstrating laboratory practicals to undergraduate students.
  • Serving as custodian of laboratory property.
  • Collection of Data for research.
  • Support in the analysis of data collected for research.
  • Preparing and ensuring timely execution of laboratory manuals and reports.
  • Preparing the budget for laboratory requirements for the Department.

Qualifications and Experience required

  • Grade 12 or Form V Certificate minimum of 5 “O” Levels with credit or better in English and Mathematics.
  • Bachelor of Engineering in Geomatics Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized university.
  • A minimum of two (02) years relevant practical experience in Geoinformatics or Geomatics or Survey laboratory/environment.
  • Should be a Professional Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
