The Copperbelt University is a Public University established through an Act of Parliament No. 19 of 1987.  The University’s core business is Teaching, Research Innovation and Community engagement as a service to the nation.  The University hereby invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for appointment in the SCHOOL OF MINES AND MINERAL SCIENCES.

  1. SENIOR LECTURERS/ LECTURERS IN THE FOLLOWING DISCIPLINES:

Department of Mining Engineering

  • Lecturer-Mine Planning and Design          (02) Positions
  • Lecturer-Mine Ventilation                             (01) Positions
  • Lecturer-Rock Mechanics                             (01) Position

Job Purpose

Performing teaching duties at undergraduate and graduate levels. Undertaking original individual and collaborative research leading to significant advances in their field and publication in national or international refereed journals and collaboration with peers in other universities and academic institutions. Keeping abreast of recent advances in the field, involvement in curriculum and programme development as well as involvement in community service in the area of specialization. Supervise students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and participation in tutoring and mentoring activities. Setting and assessment of exam papers and assessing portfolio of evidence. Involvement in departmental research and publications. Assist with administrative duties in the department and /or school. 

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Grade 12 School Certificate with 5 “0” levels which should include English Language and Mathematics
  • Bachelor of Engineering in Mining Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized university.
  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in the same field with specialty in Mine planning and Design, Mine Ventilation or Rock Mechanics.
  • PhD in Mining Engineering or related field will be an added advantage.
  • Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Applicant should have demonstrated experience in teaching, proven research and publication background.
  • Strong Commitment to teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Developed a strong research program, outstanding publication record in high –quality refereed journals and evidence of obtaining research funding if applying for appointment as a professor.
  • Teaching and research ability is highly recommended.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in discharging duties.
  • Proof of some publications.
  • Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
