1. DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL STUDIES:

Professors, Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer, Lecture

1.1 Anthropology and Sociology with a specialization in Social Theory, Medical Anthropology, Rural Sociology or Urban Sociology;

1.2 Psychology with a specialization in Clinical Psychology, Development/Educational Psychology and Counselling;

1.3 Demography with experience in teaching Social Statistics.

Job Purpose:

Performing teaching duties at undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise student projects and asses dissertations, undertaking original individual and collaborative research leading to significant advances in their field and perform other duties assigned by the supervisor. Involvement in curriculum development and involvement in community service in the area of specialization.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform teaching duties which include teaching a wide variety of undergraduate/postgraduate courses, including programming, data structures, and database management systems.
  • Invigilation of examinations including tutorials and seminars; supervise theses, dissertations, practical work and placements; counsel on projects and other academic activities; as well as promote the well-being of students.
  • Assess students on a continuous basis, set and mark, assignments, test and examination papers (including theses and dissertations) within established time-frames and seek to improve their teaching performance through appropriate means, including giving due consideration to feedback from students.
  • Undertake original individual and collaborative research leading to significant advances in their field and its publication in national or international refereed conferences and journals and books and maintain contacts and collaboration with peers in other universities and academic institutions and keep abreast of recent advances in the field.
  • Through the Head of Department/Programme Coordinator, advise the University on the acquisition of resources needed for teaching and research and collaborate with the Head and other members of the department in drawing up and implementing the strategic plan/objectives of the School, developing courses and teaching materials or aids.
  • Participate in the organisation of courses in the area of specialization in collaboration with other University staff.
  • Participate in a collegial manner in the administration of academic affairs at department/School and University levels.
  • Be responsible for delivering a high-quality learning environment for students and contributing to the development of new and exciting courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Be expected to be involved in module leadership and delivery, contribute specialist topics to other modules, dissertation supervision, developing the curriculum, industrial liaison as well as the possibility of research.
  • Join an existing research group in the department and work with colleagues to build both research capacity and deliver impact.
  • As well as the ability to inspire and motivate students, you’ll need well developed and current knowledge understanding of practical and theoretical issues in at least one major area of software engineering and/or computer science.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Dean and/or the Vice-Chancellor from time to time.
  • To participate in the supervision of students’ field-trips, internships, practical projects and thesis production.
  • To publish regularly and contribute to knowledge production for teaching purposes as well as for public service.

Qualification and Experience Required:

The ideal candidate must have the following:

  • Full Grade twelve (12) or equivalent Certificate with credits or better in five subjects which should include English Language and Mathematics.
  • Masters or Doctoral degree specializing in: Anthropology or Sociology; Cultural or Media Studies; Modern African History Psychology, Social Psychology or Criminology; Social Work or Community Development
  • Minimum of two (2) years of teaching and research experience in higher institution of learning or any recognizable institute is required. Publications record will be an added advantage. Female candidates are especially encouraged to apply.

2. DEPARTMENT OF LAW

Job Purpose:

  • An earned full-time taught Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) with at least a Credit or equivalent from a reputable and accredited University;
  • A full-time taught Master of Laws degree (LLM) from a reputable and accredited University or its equivalent;
  • PhD in Law from a reputable University will be an added advantage
  • Demonstrate ability to conduct research and write publications
  • Teaching experience at College or University level will be an added advantage although not mandatory;
  • Admission to practice law in Zambia will be an added advantage although not mandatory.

3. DEPARTMENT OF MUSICOLOGY

Professors/ Senior Lecturers / Lecturers in Music Education and Musicology

Job Purpose:

Special Skills required for this position:

  • Able to exhibit excellent musicianship performance skills and ability to teach University level – instrumental performance and music education majors in at least two applied music areas (orchestral instruments, classical/jazz piano, guitar and voice)
  • Ability to arrange for and direct choral ensembles, instrumental ensemble and orchestra.
  • Ability to teach courses in the following areas: advanced occidental music theory and analysis; composition and orchestration; music education and ethnomusicology
  • Implement a rigorous performance and research oriented music program
  • Able to design market driven short courses and merge music with other academic programmes
  • Able to direct various instrumental or vocal ensembles

Qualification and Experience Required:

  1. Full Grade twelve (12) or equivalent Certificate with credits or better in five subjects which should include English Language and Mathematics.
  2. An earned full-time taught Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, Musicology and Performing Arts with at least a Credit or equivalent from a reputable and accredited University;
  3. A full-time taught Master of Music Education, Musicology and Performing Arts from a reputable and accredited University or its equivalent;
  4. PhD Degree with a bias towards Music Education, Musicology and Performing Arts plus 3 years of industrial / practical/Research experience and be a member of registered professional body in and outside Zambia.
  5. Master’s Degree holders who qualify may apply.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

Minimum of 7 years working experience in industrial relations. Practical experience in handling and resolving industrial disputes is required.
