Welcome to the Copperbelt University Website.

The Copperbelt University is a public university of choice established through Act of Parliament No. 19 of 1987. It currently operates from three campuses: Jambo Drive Main Campus, Parklands Campus and Ndola Campus. All these campuses provide a conducive atmosphere necessary for learning, systematic inquiry and pedagogy. These campuses are located in Suburban areas within reach of shopping malls and recreational facilities in the thriving cities of Kitwe and Ndola, on the renowned Copperbelt Province of Zambia.

As a centre of excellence and scholarship, the University’s core business is to provide teaching, learning, research, consultancy and public service. These are carried out through its ten (10) faculties: the School of Mines and Mineral Sciences, School of Engineering, School of the Built Environment, School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, School of Business, School of Natural Resources, School of Medicine, School of Graduate Studies, Directorate of Distance Education and Open Learning, and Dag Hammarskjold Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies. The Copperbelt University has about 10,000 students and produces an annual average of 1, 500 graduates who form a nucleus of experts in critical areas of national development. These include but not limited to the following; mining, banking, construction, environmental, agricultural, educational, medical, engineering and manufacturing sectors. The University has a rich culture of research and consultancy and through this has been and continues to be instrumental in providing expertise that has had positive impact in different critical sectors of the Zambian economy. Prof. Ngoma brings with him thirty (30) years of experience in Management, both locally and internationally, at operational and strategic level in Government, Universities, Research Institutions and international organisations that include UN Agencies. Until his appointment as Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ngoma served in various portfolios as Acting Vice Chancellor of the Copperbelt University, Director, Consultant, Facilitator and head of different research and projects undertakings in education and specialized institutions. He has also published several books and papers both locally and internationally. Prof. Ngoma holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Management specializing in regional security studies obtained from University of Western Cape, a Masters in Public Administration from University of Western Cape and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Zambia. Other professional training has been in Senior Executive Management, and Managing the Training Function of Performance Improvement, among others.

Dr Chama has over twenty (20) years of experience, twelve (12) of which has been at top management level at the Copperbelt University. Among the positions he has held include, Acting Vice Chancellor, Interim Deputy Vice Chancellor and Dean of the School of Business and School of Engineering. Far and above his work experience, Dr Chama has published many papers in various publications as well as engaged in several research activities. Dr. Chama holds a PhD in Material Science and Engineering from the University of Liverpool, Masters Degree in Advanced Engineering Materials from University of Liverpool and a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Zambia. His area of expertise is in structure property relations.
