1.0     LECTURERS: GOVERNANCE (8 POSITIONS)

The Copperbelt University is a Public University established through an Act of Parliament No. 19 of 1987.  The University’s core business is Teaching, Research and Consultancy as a service to the nation. The University which is an equal opportunity employer invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill teaching positions as Lecturers in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Governance who will be expected to teach and conduct research.

 

The Department of Governance is a newly formed Department in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Currently, the department offers a Bachelor of Peace and Conflict Studies through distance mode of study and now we will be introducing it on full time and evening modes of study. The program’s main objective is to train qualified professionals who will immensely be useful in the public and private sectors nationally and internationally. To further enhance the quality of teaching and research, the department seeks to complement itself with eight new appointments. We welcome applications from individuals working in any area in governance.

 

Job Purpose:

  • Performing teaching duties at undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Undertaking original individual and collaborative research leading to significant advances in their field and publication in national or international refereed journals and collaboration with peers in other universities and academic institutions.
  • Keeping abreast of recent advances in the field, involvement in curriculum and program development as well as involvement in community service in the area of specialization.
  • Supervise students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Participation in tutoring and mentoring activities.
  • Setting and assessment of examination papers and assessing portfolio of evidence.
  • Involvement in departmental research and publications.
  • Assist with administrative duties in the department and /or school as may be required

 

Qualifications and experience required

  • Grade 12 or Form V Certificate with Five 5 ‘O’ level Credits or better including English Language and Mathematics

Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following -:

  • Politics and Governance,
  • Public Administration and Local Governance (including Traditional Authorities)
  • International Relations and Peace and Conflict Studies,
  • Philosophy, applied ethics and religion from a recognised University
  • Master’s Degree in any of the above from a recognised University
  • PhD in relevant field will be preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years relevant practical experience.
  • Must have proof of legitimate publications
  • Excellent analytical and statistical analysis skills
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

 

Required Competencies and Behavioral Attributes:

  • Be able to conduct high quality research with potential to create impact, secure research funding from local and international funders and exercise leadership roles.
  • Ability and willingness to teach, supervise, and assess the students at under graduate and graduate levels, ability and willingness to work as part of a team and to contribute fully to the work of the department.
  • Capacity to deliver outstanding teaching across a range of programmes and contribute to the administration of the school
  • Track record of internationally excellent publications or the potential to produce high-quality publications in peer reviewed academic journals.
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a team and contribute fully to the work of the department.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills necessary for undertaking teaching of students.

 

2.0     LECTURERS: LAW (6 POSITIONS)

The Department of Law is a newly formed department in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences The department will offer a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) in all modes of study. The program’s main objective is to train qualified professional lawyers who will immensely be useful in the public and private sectors nationally and internationally. To further enhance the quality of teaching and research, the department seeks to complement itself with six new appointments. We welcome applications from highly qualified individuals.

 

Job Purpose:

  • Performing teaching duties at undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • Must be a member of Lawyers Association of Zambia.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
